Deviation Actions
I just read this Washington Post article about the criminalization of homelessness: "It's unconstitutional to ban the homeless from sleeping outside" www.washingtonpost.com/news/wo…
New Folder Clarification
I made a new Favorites folder called "Candid Photos". This means it is for photographs of homeless people. Photographs of people posing as homeless characters still belong in the Featured folder along with digital and traditional artwork depicting homelessness.
Prerequisites
Hi everyone! I'm really happy that this group has grown, and that people besides me have been submitting deviations to be included.
I do have one thing to say about submitting works, especially photographs of people: the subjects should be homeless, not just poor or run-down looking. If that circumstance is uncertain--if it is not apparent, and you did not know for a fact--then it will not be accepted. I'm not saying one circumstance of poverty is more or less serious than another, but I do think a distinction should be made due to the focus of this group.
Welcome!
I made this group so that there would be a place for Deviants to depict and discuss homelessness as a cultural circumstance and economic phenomenon. Obviously, you don't need to be homeless to join or contribute art, but if you are or have been, it would be great if we could get a conversation going. Here are some topics I hope to see addressed in this group:
~ How do people get on the streets in the first place, and how can they get off?
~ Is it possible for any culture to completely eliminate the possibility of homelessness? Or should people be allowed to choose their lifestyle, including whether they have a permanent home?
